How to get Double Legendaries in Shadowlands

March 26, 2022 by Archdruid Andoris 2 Comments

A complete guide to obtaining your second legendary (leggo) and answers to frequently asked questions

One of the most anticipated features before the release of patch 9.2 was the ability to equip two pieces of legendary gear simultaneously. Unfortunately, unlocking double legendaries turned out to be more confusing than expected. Luckily, I’ll go over everything you need to know about double legendaries in Shadowlands in this guide.

You can wear two legendaries at the same time! But…

There’s always a but. Before you start crafting your second legendary with the power of your choice, we should talk…

While you can now wear two leggos at the same time, one of your legendary gear pieces needs to contain the Unity legendary power. This is a legendary power that amplifies the power of your covenant ability. The boost to your covenant ability is the same as covenant-specific legendaries in patch 9.1, but the power will switch when you change covenants.

Each class has their own unique power when wearing a covenant legendary. For example, the image above shows the covenant power on my Kyrian shaman. You can read more about your classes’ covenant-specific legendary in this WowHead guide.

Now that you know about the restriction, let’s talk about getting your second legendary!

How to get your double legendary

There are 2 ways to get a second legendary in Shadowlands.

The first is to complete all 7 chapters of the Zereth Mortis campaign. This will give you an item level 265 legendary belt, which cannot be upgraded, at the end. The belt’s stats and power, which is set to the Unity legendary power, cannot be changed either.

The second option is to craft it yourself.

Crafting a second legendary

If you want to get the highest item level and stats on your second legendary, you will want to craft it yourself. You’ll need to purchase the Memory of Unity runecarving power from Vilo (the Enlightened Quartermaster) in Haven. This costs 500 cosmic flux and requires you to reach revered with the Enlightened faction.

Once you have unlocked the Memory of Unity, you can craft a second legendary with the Unity power like you would usually. If you are new to legendary crafting, you can read more about the process in this WowHead article.

The advantage of crafting your own second legendary is that you’ll be able to choose your stats, gear slot, and item level. Instead of being stuck with an ilvl 265 belt, you can go to ilvl 291 on whatever piece of gear makes the most sense for your character.

If you skipped the second section, one of your legendary pieces must contain the Unity legendary power, or you won’t be able to equip two!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I choose any power for my second legendary?

Unfortunately not. Your second legendary will need to contain the Unity power. This will amplify the power of your covenant ability and will switch with you when you change covenants.

What if I already crafted my covenant legendary?

Sadly, if you have already crafted your covenant legendary, you will want to craft a new piece with Unity on it to get the most out of your 2 legendaries. You can scrap your current covenant legendary at the runecarver to get your soul ash and soul cinders back. However, you will lose the missives and base item you used.

Does the Memory of Unity unlock account-wide?

Yes! Once you unlock the runecarving memory on one character, you can use it to craft double legendaries on your alts.

Do you get the 265 legendary belt on alts?

If you want the 265 legendary belt on an alt, you’ll need to complete all 7 chapters of the Zereth Mortis campaign. Suppose you don’t want to do the campaign on 10 characters (I don’t blame you). In that case, you can grind the rep required to purchase Memory of Unity on your main character and then craft 2nd legendaries on your alts.

Can you equip 2 legendaries at item level (ilvl) 291?

Yes, you can have rank 7 (291) legendaries as long as one of them is using the Memory of Unity. The other legendary can contain any power you want.

Final Thoughts

As a quick recap, you have two options you can use to wear double legendaries in patch 9.2.

  1. Wear the item level 265 Belt of Unity you obtain from completing the Zereth Mortis campaign.
  2. Reach revered with The Enlightened, purchase the Memory of Unity, and craft your own Unity legendary.

Hopefully, this guide helped clarify some confusion you had. If you have any questions you want to be answered or added to the FAQs, make sure to leave a comment below. There are boxes for name and e-mail but you can leave that blank (I just use it to catch bots).
