A quick introduction on how to use the Rune Helper addon for the Hylbrande runes in Tazavesh
One of the trickiest mechanics in Tazavesh for PUG groups is the Hylbrande rune puzzle. If you have voice communication, it is pretty easy to do the puzzle, but things can get tricky without it. In this guide, I’ll show you how to use the Rune Helper addon to better communicate the puzzle solution during the Hylbrande fight in Tazavesh.
How to install the Rune Helper addon
You will need to install the addon to start using it. This can be done manually by downloading it from CurseForge or through an addon manager.
You can find Rune Helper on GitHub, in the Overwolf/Curseforge addon manager, or even in the open source manager WowUp. If you choose to use WowUp, just know that their library of addons shrunk recently after losing access to the Curseforge API. Luckily, Rune Helper is still on there for now!

How to read the console during the Hylbrande fight
Before I talk about how to use the addon, I want to ensure we’re on the same page regarding reading the console. I have seen several players struggle to understand the puzzle and how to read the console.
Once Hylbrande heads to the center of the room to cast Sanitizing Cycle, one player should make their way to the console on the wall opposite the room’s entrance. At the console, the player will see 4 distinct runes being projected in front of the console like this:
The order the runes are shown in is crucial because it corresponds to empty consoles on each side of the room. If you think of the room as having a console side and an entrance side, you can translate the solution as follows:
Hopefully, that visual helps!
Let’s talk about what the addon does now.
How to use the Rune Helper addon
While anyone in the group can use the Rune Helper addon, it will be most helpful to the player reading the main console. For the rest of this section, let’s pretend that you are the console player and have the same solution we saw in the visuals above.
With the addon installed (and activated), you should see a pop-up window that looks like this.
Once the boss goes into his immune phase, you make your way to the console. The four colors of runes appear around the boss in the center of the room.
Now, you’ll input the solution you see on the console into the window. The top left quadrant of the addon window will correspond to the top left rune (blue in our case). Top right quadrant to top right rune, and so on.
After inputting all the colors, the greyed-out “Announce” button will become clickable. This allows you to send the solution to the puzzle in party chat.
And that is about all there is to using the addon!
If you want to play around with clicking the runes in the window, you can type /rh in to chat anytime. Otherwise, there aren’t any options to worry about or change.
Final Thoughts
If you’re planning on pushing Tazavesh keys this season, an addon like Rune Helper can help cut some time off your dungeon runs. As a side note, you can also find WeakAuras that do similar things; I just personally prefer to take the addon route.
