Unlocking allied races in WoW can feel daunting, especially for new or returning players. In this quick overview guide, I’ll review the unlock requirements and starting points for every allied race to get you started. This is meant to be a skimmable high-level guide, but I’ve linked more detailed guides in the article.
To unlock every allied race (except Earthen), you’ll need to reach level 40 on a character in the same faction. For example, to unlock the void elves (an alliance race), you’ll need a level 40 alliance character. Horde allied races require a level 40+ horde character. Once you’ve reached the level requirement, you can visit the embassy in Stormwind or Orgrimmar to obtain a “recruitment” quest chain that unlocks a new allied race upon completion.
For Earthen, you’ll need to complete the War Within campaign and 3 sidequest chains. The campaign requires a level 80 character and renown 4 with each Khaz Algar faction!
We’ll discuss the specifics of the Earthen unlock in a moment; for now, let’s discuss how to find your faction embassy.
Where is the Stormwind/Orgrimmar embassy?
Stormwind Embassy
The Stormwind Embassy is on the northern outskirts of the city. It is a barrack-style building surrounded by trees and a small field. After reaching level 40, you should see gold exclamation points on your map that tell you that quests are available for your character at the embassy. If you use the TomTom addon, you can type /way 52, 14 in chat after entering Stormwind to guide you.
Orgrimmar Embassy
The Orgrimmar Embassy is located in the city’s southwest corner, not far from the city gates. After entering the gates, head towards Grommosh Hold and break off to the left. You’ll find the embassy at the top of a switchback ramp at the south end of the Valley of Spirits. The TomTom command for finding the horde embassy is /way 38, 81.3.

Unlocking allied races can be time-consuming, especially starting from scratch. However, things get easier once you boil it down to reaching level 40 and picking up embassy quests.
